    What a fantastic video! I too wish I had this information when I started in the mid 80's. Growing up there was nothing cooler than seeing a really good skier throw up walls of water. Now it seems like most kids would rather be pulled on tubes or those inflatable couches which is unfortunate.

    When I was learning to ski , back in the 70's I was mostly behind a less powerful boat, so coming up on one ski a different technique was needed. Just one foot in the ski with the other leg trailing, then once up put the other foot in. On a more powerful boat, both feet in is fine. I remember doing a dock start behind a Mastercraft. Also I was told to hold the handle with one hand up and the other down. As opposed to both hands down when going on two skis. Good video though.

Its very educational and the teaching is spot on ! i learnt to ski as a kid in Penang where we had a house on the beach so we were skiing most weekends.I progressed to slalom and loved it. I’m right-foot dominate so since I was 13 (I’m 28 now) my dad, uncle, and grandfather trained me too slalom ski with my right foot in the back. From watching your video today, it seems like I should be a right-foot forward skier instead! So, I tried to ski switching my feet but I couldn’t even get up. Do you suggest I relearn how to get up and ski with my right foot forward or continue to try to get better with my left foot forward?

    Can you ski with the rope tied to the low points of a boat? Or will doing that pull you down into the water since the rope will be at a downward angle from the skier to the boat?

    • @skitrav
      @skitrav 2 роки тому

      Yes you can however if your rope is very short, this will make it harder. Having a rope that pulls you up,ie a normal pylon height or on a tower is a better way to do it and makes it easier to learn.

    The problem with waterskiing is that it's cost-prohibitive. I just saw an ad in the boat trader for a used MasterCraft ski boat. The price was $270,000.00. New ones go for over $300,000.00. A lot of folks can't afford houses that cost less than that. This is a sport for the wealth-privileged.

    • @dougtripp4161
      @dougtripp4161 Рік тому

      granted new boats are expensive. But you don't need a new boat to ski.. Market place has hundreds of boats under $10k you can ski behind. Depending where you live, you don't need a boat. There are cable parks and clubs you can ski at for little $$

    Once you get to 15 off x 32 mph, do you recommend going up in speed and staying at 15 off or go to 22 off and stay at 32 mph? I've tried both, sometimes I can do either, but NOT consistent. Thanks again, April is amazing!

    • @skitrav
      @skitrav 2 роки тому

      Thanks for the question. 15 off at 32mph then 15 off at 34mph. Try to run the passes again and again at the slower speeds and then move up in smaller increments. Ie. Try 33mph so that the jump from 32mph to 34mph is not as big too. Also visit the camp at cobleskischool for further lessons! Its easier when you ski alot too!

    I feel like the, "throw them in the water and they'll learn how to swim," technique works more in water skiing. Precautions in water skiing like weights, throw off their weight and they won't learn as quickly to control their own weight rather with external weight. I know why people would use a tie for the skis being together, don't use them. Get hurt, learn to keep the skis together. You can't slalom with tied skis.

    Look into a 360 camera too, such as Insta360 One X2. You won't have to be so exact with the lense being directly on the subject. You can also edit out the pole so it looks cleaner.

    Super cool shot angles, great quality vid & powerful/smooth looking skiing... but in my opinion, the videos & different angles were too chopped up. Please take as constructive criticism, as I WOULD LOVE TO SEE MORE from you & this ultra-cool location! I would just recommend sticking with certain angles a bit longer (as one person comment, so they could learn something, we can follow body positioning & angles better). At least one full pass would be nice, but I like how you tried to coordinate different angles for the same buoy or wake crossing; it just got to be too much...kinda "strobe light" affect. I think you've got potential to truly have some of the best videos on the web. seriously. Good work overall, hope to see more from you. [oh, and this I know is completely a personal-preference thing, but oh my gosh, that music {blech} hated it {sorry}. If you were to blend the smooth but wicked skiing form with something like Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Tight Rope" (punny, too!). I actually watched it again w/the sound off & that song playing in the background - with NO editing, just playing it, some of the tempo changes coordinated w/your slo-mo moments & the guitar slides synced up with some of the slicey buoy turns & wake crossings...really fit sweetly. check it out for yourself sometime, it's pretty slick...Or really any version of rock, from 50's & 60's up to today's metal. Rockabilly, blues, jazz, 80's hairbands or 90's grunge... most of that stuff you can sync it with the skiing SO easily & whether you want to dial in a "heavy" strong feeling, or smooth flowy, you can find a riff that feels just right.] But, as I said, totally a personal preference on the music (you gotta do you), whereas the video stuff is more technical advice. And all meant in the idea of improving your already great production quality. Good luck & please keep it up!!! Thank you!
